At B. Sharp, we use dance as a tool to teach your child great leadership skills and character development techniques.  We know that not all of our students plan to be professional dancers in their lives, and we don't expect for them to be.  What we want to see is your child succeed in whatever he or she chooses to do with their life.  We are here to help your child achieve their dreams.

Ballet, JAzz, Tap, Contemporary & More

Ballet is a wonderful form of physical fitness. Ballet improves muscular strength, flexibility and range of motion. Ballet training also boosts coordination and balance while correcting poor alignment. In addition to its physical benefits, ballet can also help to improve children's mental and emotional health. Training in classical ballet instills a sense of pride and accomplishment, which can boost self-esteem. As children improve and master more challenging movement combinations, they feel more self-assured, which can carry over into other areas of their lives. Dance training can also be a great way to relax and use excess energy productively after school.

The athletic, full-bodied nature of jazz class develops arm strength from floor work, leg strength from jumps, and core strength from coordinating the limbs. Jazz dance classes consist of stretching sequences that lengthen the larger muscles of the legs and lower back. Increased flexibility and range of motion in the hips, shoulders, and spine commonly develop from jazz dance training. Challenging steps and combinations, in which the upper and lower body parallel and contrast each other in numerous ways, create increased coordination in jazz dancers. We’ve all got rhythm, but some of us need a little help finding it. Tap dancing is a great way for your child to find his or her own beat. Actvities that build our balance are good for long-term health, and tap dance teaches you how to balance -- and improve upon your balance. Because weight shifts in tap dance, it is a great way to enhance your balance and core control. This can reduce back pain, prevent injuries and improve your posture.

In addition to studying contemporary dance itself, aspiring dancers should also study ballet. The poise, balance, and control required for successful ballet performances make it easier to master contemporary dance. Therefore it important to start first with ballet fundamentals before moving into contemporary dance classes. Contemporary dance involves leaps, jumps, and many other moves which require a fluid body movement and needs the dancer to be flexible. It focuses on movements made from the torso area and hence requires a lot of strength and dexterity. Stretching, Yoga and exercises for core strengthening are absolutely essential in order to perfect your contemporary moves.
